Raygun - 2021 Rank#1 bgirl in AUS
Raygun (143 Liverpool Street Familia)
Sydney bgirl Raygun, representing 143 Liverpool Street Familia, is the top ranked Australian bgirl for the second year in a row. While the lockdowns of 2021 meant that it was a quiet year for jams, Raygun performed strongly across both the opens and bgirl categories. In the 1v1 bgirl battles, she started the year as runner up in the online ABA Battle Series 1, and went on to win the in-person Battle Series 2, and the online Battle Series 3. In December, she was selected to represent Australia at the WDSF World Breaking Championships in Paris, and her preliminary round ranked her 42nd globally.
An advocate for bgirls, Raygun hopes that her competing creates the space for more women to participate in the culture. She also organises bgirl workshops, training sessions, and social events to help support women’s growth in the scene.
Apart from being a champion bgirl, Raygun completed her PhD on breaking culture in 2017 and is also known as Dr Rachael Gunn, an academic at Macquarie University.
