Brunswick Street Art Party: 2v2 Breaking Battle

In April 2021 Brisbane City Council approached Elements Collective to run a Break Battle alongside the Brunswick Street Art Party as a part of B.A.D (Brisbane Art Design festival). With a super quick turn around and limited time each day (just 2hrs to complete the entire battle each day), spots were limited to 16 crews.

Info was announced, promo was out and in true b-boy fashion, on Tuesday before the event it was announced that registrations were FULL! ... which then started the flood of messages from breakers who forgot or missed out on rego's ...

EC quickly chatted with judges and decided to run a qualifying round on the Saturday event as 20 crews had now registered from Cairns, Sydney, Melbourne, Gold Coast & Brisbane and the Top 16 on the Sunday event.

Again in true b-boy fashion when the battles began on Saturday...only 16 crews rocked up so we decided to proceed as planned with a knockout battle in Top 16 ... 30mins into the jam, 2x crews from Sydney arrived late after driving non-stop over night to Brissy...we had to let them in! So a decision was made to choose 4 wildcard crews to join us again on the Sunday event.

Sunday: Day 2! We started again! With 12 crews now competing, we held a qualifier first round eliminating 4 crews. On a strict timeline we moved straight into the Top 8 and then Top 4 where we were left with On The Spot (Sette & Foxy) Vs Skill@Will (Benny & Tepo) and Team Cream Studs (Fongo & J-Attack) Vs Flowtality (The Law & KidTec).

The finals were hype and full of nostalgia as we saw QLD Vs VIC once again.

Team Cream Studs (Fongo & J-Attack) taking the win!

Our after party each day was held at Elements Collective venue bar where breakers reminisced over past years & events and the void felt from not having our large annual national comps like ABC and Shadow Wars. We hope one day to see them back again!

Shout out to the Elements Collective team, Brisbane City Council, B.A.D Festival and Red Bull Australia for pulling off an epic weekend!
