ELITE SCHOLARSHIPS PUT 10 MORE ATHLETES ON PATH TO GREATNESS

Ahead of the sport’s Olympic debut at Paris 2024, 14-year-old break-dancer Jeff Dunne has been named as the youngest of 10 new recipients of a Tier 2 scholarship in Sport Australia Hall of Fame’s Scholarship & Mentoring Program.

The 10 athletes, who include three Birmingham 2022 Commonwealth Games medallists, will each receive a grant of $5,000 plus support from SAHOF and its esteemed member base over the next 15 months.

The 2023 Tier 2 scholarship recipients are Claudia Bailey (paddle), Jeff Dunne (breaking), Tenealle Fasala (water polo), Angus Hincksman (para-athletics), Alexandra Kiroi-Bogatyreva (gymnastics – Birmingham gold and silver medallist), Yangzi Liu (table tennis – Birmingham bronze medallist), Lekeisha Pergoliti (boxing), Cameron Rogers (cycling), Alex Saffy (para-swimming – Birmingham silver medallist) and Dylan Soin (sport climbing).

The SAHOF Scholarship & Mentoring Program – the nation’s leading sports scholarship program – is backed by the Australian Sports Commission and the Australian Institute of Sport.

The three-tiered program awards annual funding of $150,000 across 32 scholarships to support the next generation of Australia’s sporting stars on their journey to excellence and success in sport and in life.

Sport Australia Hall of Fame Scholarship & Mentoring Program Chair Sue Stanley OAM said, "Each year I am amazed by the calibre of applicants for the Sport Australia Hall of Fame Scholarship & Mentoring Program.  It has been an exciting journey to see past and current scholarship holders compete especially with the success of the Tokyo Olympics and Paralympic Games and most recently the Commonwealth Games. It is a privilege to play a small part in assisting elite young Australian athletes by, motivating and inspiring them to achieve their goals."

“It’s so dope to be a recipient of this SAHOF Scholarship as it will help me and my family out so much to be able to compete around the world and Australia in many competitions. Also, it’s cool to be the first breaker that has received this and hopefully others in the next few years will also be able to part of this program.” - Jeff Dunne on being selected as a 2023 T2 Scholarship Holder

“We are extremely excited for Jeff to receive this opportunity from SAHOF. Jeff represents the next generation of Australian Breakers, and he is passionate and hungry to win. This scholarship will provide access to resources that will optimise his Breaking potential to compete on the international competitive stage for Australia.” - Australian Breaking Association State Representative, Jeff’s Breaking Mentor, and co-founder of Australia’s top Breaking crew Team Cream, Liam Masters
